1. Helena and Norman share a son together
Helena and Norman’s relationship was the real deal — they were together for five years from 1998-2003, and even had a son together. Mingus Lucien Reedus was born on October 13, 1999, and the pair now share joint custody.
2. She’s a model
Helena moved from Denmark to Paris in the late 1980s to pursue a career in modeling, and in the 1990s, began appearing on big-time magazine covers like Vogue, Elle and Harper’s Bazaar, as well as in fashion campaigns for brands like Revlon and Versace. She also became a Victoria’s Secret model, and has worked alongside Tyra Banks and Stephanie Seymour.
3. She’s also a businesswoman
Helena helped launch Nylon Magazine in 1999 with founding publisher Marvin Scott Jarrett, and then served as its first creative director. She’s also had a clothing line, a shop in New York City, a lingerie collection, and has worked as a photographer. Not too shabby!
4. She loves musicians
Besides Norman, Helena has had two other long-term boyfriends since becoming a known name — and they’re both musicians! From 1991-1995, she dated INXS singer Michael Hutchence, and they lived together in both France and her home country, Denmark. Since 2008, she’s been dating Interpol frontman Paul Banks.
5. She’s extremely charitable
Helena helped launch the second Fashion Targets Breast Cancer campaign, and starred in its 2002 ad campaign. The charity sells exclusive designer t-shirts to aid young women in Ireland with breast cancer, and has also featured satars like Naomi Campbell, Gisele Bundchen and Elle Macpherson.
