Camille A. Brown is an American dancer, choreographer and dance teacher. She is the Founder & Artistic Director of Camille A. Brown & Dancers and while running her own company, has also choreographed comissioned pieces for Broadway shows, other companies and more. Camille began her training at The Bernice Johnson Dance Center and The Carolyn DeVore Dance Center, and continued in high school at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and the Performing Arts while simultaneously attending The Ailey School on scholarship. She earned her BFA at UNC’s School Of The Arts and went on to be a member of the prestigious Ronald K. Brown’s Evidence. Camille also served as a guest artist with Rennie Harris Puremovement and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.
She is inspired by the storytelling aspects of dance and often incorporates black culture and history into her choreography. In her artistic statement, she writes, “Music and rhythm are the main driving forces of my work.”

Camille A. Brown gave a TED Talk in 2016 titled, “A Visual History of Social Dance in 25 Moves,” which was chosen as one of the most notable talks of the year by TED Curator Chris Anderson; the video has over 15 million views on Facebook.

Camille’s theater credits include ‘Once On This Island,’ ‘A Streetcar Named Desire,’ and ‘Choir Boy,’ for which she’s nominated for a Tony Award.

“Informed by my music background as a clarinetist, I create choreography that utilizes musical composition as storytelling. I am interested in telling stories – historical and personally based – and am fascinated with tying history to my personal experiences and bringing those things to life,” Camille writes in her Artistic Statement.
