Cicely Tyson was a true legend. The late actress made her big break in Hollywood in the 1972 film ‘Sounder’, which earned her Oscar and Golden Globe nominations. She later garnered two Emmy Awards foer her role in ‘The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman.’ Additional acting credits for Cicely included ‘The Help’ and ‘How To Get Away With Murder’ the latter of which earned her five Emmy Award nominations.
Cicely was also named the Kennedy Center honoree in 2015, and in 2016, she was given the Presidential Medal of Freedom. She was also a proud mom to her daughter, who she gave birth to when she was 18. She never discussed her daughter until her memoir ‘Just As I Am,’ which was released days before Cicely died at age 96 in January 2021.
