1 of 8Daria: A Look At The Series
Na na na na na… It’s a sick, sad world out there, but at least we have ‘Daria’. The snarky MTV cartoon came out 25 years ago, on Mar. 3, 1997 and animated TV has never been the same since. Outcasts of all sorts instantly loved leading lady Daria Morgendorffer, a misanthropic teen trying to get through her days at Lawndale High. (Trueheads know that Daria was actually first featured in ’Beevis & Butthead.)
The show was known for its supreme sarcasm and perfectly 90s soundtrack. It ran for 5 seasons, and also spawned the TV movie ‘Is It Fall Yet?’ before wrapping in 2002.
In June 2019, MTV announced a new Daria animated spin-off series, Jodie (originally Daria & Jodie), with actress Tracee Ellis Ross voicing the titular character and serving as an executive producer.
Let’s spend time with everyone’s favorite “misery chick”. Click through the gallery to see some choice moments from Daria.
The One And Only
Daria was voiced by Tracy Grandstaff. She was a newcomer to town at the start of the series.
The People Of Lawndale High
Here, some of the people of Lawndale High are seen. From left there is Principal Lee, cheerleader Brittany Taylor, QB and total dreamboat Kevin Thompson, Class President Jodie Landon, Daria, artist bestie Jane Lane, football player and Jodie’s beau Mack Mackenzie , resident goth Angela, hot-head teacher Anthony DeMartino, and, at the bottom, the creepy Charles “Upchuck” Ruttheimer III.
Dynamic Duo
Birds of a feather. Daria found a kindred spirit in Jane Lane, but also ends up developing a crush on her brother. Later, when Jane gets a boyfriend, the tension escalates.
Daria Goes To Broadway
Put on your dancing shoes! Not afraid of the absurd, season 3 featured a musical episode where the town braces themselves for a potential hurricane.
Brittany Pops Off
Wow! Brittany is seen dressed as a can of pop. The cheerleader came off as ditzy, but later was revealed to have some surprising moments of depth.
Daria Gets Emotional
Daria is seen with teachers Timothy O’Neill and Anthony DeMartino in a scene from ‘Daria The Movie: Is It Fall Yet?’
The People Of Lawndale
Daria is surrounded by the cheery residents of Lawndale. How embarassing.
