Dr. Oz has been a TV staple since his earliest appearances on ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show.’ Prior to joining the daytime classic as a health expert, he had a successful career as a heart surgeon. After gaining popularity with Oprah, he started his own show, which focused on all sorts of medical help and information. Despite focus on medicine for most of his TV career, he also guest co-hosted ‘Jeopardy’ in March 2021. Despite his brand being a medical TV personality, Dr. Oz has been met with much criticism for some of his claims, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, where he spoke in favor of reopening schools in April 2020, in the midst of the pandemic.
Dr. Oz announced that he would run for the United States Senate seat in Pennsylvania in the 2022 midterm elections in November 2021. He’d already been appointed to former President Donald Trump’s President’s Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition in 2018.
