Ever heard of Congressman Eric Swalwell? You’re about to hear his name all the time! The Democrat, who represents California’s 15th district, announced on ‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’ on April 8 that he is running for president against Donald Trump. Swalwell is now the 18th Democrat to announce their bid for the 2020 election. Swalwell, a three-term congressman, is only 38 years old, and has an ambitious platform advocating for gun control, student loan debt relief, and healthcare for all. He’s teamed up with student activists from March For Our Lives to get out the message about his gun control platform, and penned a passionate op-ed after announcing his campaign that laid out his exact demands. Swalwell isn’t a well-known politician, so this campaign is going to be rough. But he’s got social media on his side. The congressman was dubbed “the Snapchat King of Congress” in 2016!
