International Women’s Day 2018
Most of you probably already know that Women’s History Month is the month of March, but did you know when International Women’s Day was? In case you didn’t, we are here to share some knowledge on the iconic day that we absolutely love celebrating each and every year!
Today, the celebration takes place on the 8th of March every year. Believe it or not, women in Soviet Russia contributed a lot into making the holiday what it is today. It was after they gained suffrage in 1917 that Women’s Day officially became a national holiday there (until eventually becoming a popular celebration by the socialist movement in communist countries in 1967). Then, 10 years later the holiday picked up international recognition when the United Nations began celebrating the day in 1977.
Ultimately, International Women’s Day is a focal point in the women’s rights movement and just a truly special day for all of us to celebrate all kinds of women around the world!
