Although fans who have spotted Selena since she entered rehab have said she seems to be doing amazing, sources are saying that she’s actually quite miserable. The 24-year-old singer has even threatened to leave the facility, and an insider told InTouch that some of the treatment she’s been receiving isn’t working very well — which has Selena’s mom, Mandy Teefey, totally worried about her condition. While Mandy wants to hope for the best, unfortunately she’s already begun preparing for the worst.
“[Mandy’s] been reaching out to find out what it would take to get a conservatorship for Selena,” a family insider revealed to the mag. “She believes that a mental breakdown is possible if Selena doesn’t take this rehab stint seriously.”

If Mandy were to get a conservatorship for Selena, she’d become Sel’s custodian, which means that she would have control over her daughter’s finances as well as major life decisions. This is exactly what happened to Britney Spears after she was admitted to a psychiatric ward in 2008, as the court ordered for her dad, James, to become her custodian. Britney is seemingly doing better than ever these days (with her father’s conservatorship still active), so maybe Selena’s mom’s idea would be best for her in the long run?
Selena was recently spotted outside of her rehab facility on Oct. 18, looking happy and relaxed despite what reports are saying. But there was one indication that things might not be going as facilitators hoped: Selena was smoking a cigarette. The whole reason Selena is in rehab is because of issues she’s faced as a result of her Lupus diagnosis, and a doctor recently revealed to HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY that cigarettes can increase the negative affects of the disease. If she doesn’t want her mom to take control, Sel may want to re-think the smoking!

But the cigs could be a way to relieve the stress of rehab, as the InTouch insider said that Selena has told friends and family that she feels “trapped.” She’s also apparently had lots of restrictions put on her, which doesn’t help her frustration. Obviously Selena’s mom just wants what’s best for her, and it doesn’t seem like she wants to have to become Sel’s custodian. Hopefully Selena will be able to turn things around soon so that doesn’t happen!
