Selena Gomez is getting her priorities straight. The singer-songwriter, actress and entrepreneur triple threat revealed in a new interview that she is pondering her departure from the music industry. Without noting that she would quit the business entirely, Selena explained what she would rather be focusing on in her career now.
What Did Selena Gomez Say About Music?
Per Variety, the “Lose You to Love Me” singer revealed on the “SmartLess” podcast that she was nearing the end of her music career.
“I do feel like I have one more album in me, but I would probably choose acting,” Selena noted before explaining that she was “tired” of juggling her multi-faceted career in music, acting and entrepreneurship. “I am going to want to chill because I’m tired,” she added. “I wanted to be an actress; I never really intended on being a singer full-time, but apparently, that hobby turned into something else.”
Selena later pointed out that while she doesn’t think she is “the best singer” in the business, she knows “how to tell stories, and I love being able to make songs.” The former Disney Channel star also reflected on how her interest in music began.
“I started having a lot of fun with music, and then touring was really fun,” she said. “But I was doing my TV show [Wizards of Waverly Place] at the same time, and I just found it really fun, so I just kept going. … But the older I get, the more I’m kind of like, I would like to find something to just settle on.”
Is Selena Quitting Music?
Based on her comment about having “one more album” left in her, it’s possible that Selena may retire from recording music in the near future.
Nearly three years before her 2024 interview, Selena hinted that she had been thinking about retiring from singing. “It’s hard to keep doing music when people don’t necessarily take you seriously,” she admitted to Vogue in 2021. “I’ve had moments where I’ve been like, ‘What’s the point? Why do I keep doing this?’”
“I want to give it one last try before I maybe retire [from] music,” the Only Murders in the Building actress continued. “‘Lose You to Love Me,’ I felt, was the best song I’ve ever released, and for some people, it still wasn’t enough. … I think there are a lot of people who enjoy my music, and for that I’m so thankful, for that I keep going.”
When Does Selena’s New Album Come Out?
In December 2023, the “Single Soon” artist responded to a fan’s social media comment that she was releasing her new album “two months” from then. This indicates that the album would drop some time in February 2024.
