Mavis Staples
Mavis Staples is an R&B and gospel singer. She got her start as part of a band with her family, The Staple Singers, in the late 50s. By the 60s, they became one of the voices of the civil rights movement, and in the 70s, they gained national success as a group. Mavis also began venturing out as a solo artist in the late 60s, and released her debut solo album in 1969. In the 80s, she met Prince, and was signed to his record label for seven years. He helped produce two of her albums in 80s, as well. In the early 2000s, the Staple Singers won the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Grammys. Mavis has also won two other Grammy Awards as a solo artist. She released her most recent album in 2019. Keep clicking through the gallery to see more pics of Mavis over the years!
