Michael Bennet
Michael Bennet is Democrat who has served as Senator to Colorado since 2009. The Senator has described himself as a “pragmatic idealist,” but is considered more of a moderate Democrat. Bennet served in the public sector before becoming a politician, once serving as the superintendent of Denver public schools. The senator holds a law degree from Yale, as well. Bennet followed his father and grandfather into politics. He was born in New Delhi, India, when his father, Douglas J. Bennet, was an aide to the US Ambassador to India. He later worked in the Carter and Clinton administrations. His grandfather, Douglas Bennet, was an economic advisor to President Franklin Dr. Roosevelt. Bennet announced in May 2019 that he would be running for president in 2020, as a Democrat, against Donald Trump. He was the 21st Democrat to announce their campaign. One month before announcing, Bennet underwent surgery for prostate cancer; his office said it was successful, and his prognosis was good.
