Michael Bloomberg’s Presidential Campaign
Michael Bloomberg is an American politician and billionaire businessman who is running for president as a Democrat in the 2020 race. Bloomberg served as the mayor of New York City for three consecutive terms, from 2002 to 2013, between Rudy Giuliani and Bill de Blasio. From 2001 to 2007, he was a registered Republican, then an Independent from 2007 to 2018, and a Democrat from 2018 to present. Bloomberg is the co-founder and majority owner of Bloomberg L.P., his billion-dollar business, which includes the media organization Bloomberg News. As of November 2019, he was the 12th richest person in the world, with a net worth of $61.8 billion. Bloomberg launched his presidential campaign in November 2019, after saying months earlier that he wouldn’t be running. His campaign is self-funded and as of February 2020, he has only qualified for one debate and no primaries, leading to arguments that he’s buying the election.
