“It reminded me of having to deal with drugs in my own family,” Oprah told Extra, speaking of Lamar tragically being found unconscious in a Nevada brothel. “It’s a battle that you can’t win until they decide they want to win,” she added.

Oprah herself had to witness her half sister, Patricia, succumb to drug addiction, more than a decade ago. “In my own family we lost that battle,” she said, speaking explicitly about the tragedy. “I put my sister through rehab twice, she came out of rehab and went right back on Oxycontin and there it was, gone, dead,” she added.

Oprah, understanding how heartbreaking it is to see someone you love go through addiction, said she had reached out to Lamar’s ex-wife Khloe Kardashian, as well as her mother, Kris Jenner, and sisters, Kim Kardashian and Kourtney Kardashian. “I know how frustrating it is because you want to be able to help,” said Oprah. “You want to be able to do something.”

Patricia had been found dead in her apartment in Wisconsin in February, 2003. Her death was drug-induced, resulting from an overdose of oxycodone, according to the coroner’s office, following what was a years-long battle with drugs.

Such sad situations. We’re sending all the love and positivity to Oprah, as well as Lamar on his journey to recovery.
