Brooke ‘Skylar’ Richardson was 18 years old when a doctor accused her of possibly delivering a stillborn child in July 2017. Police took the accusations into consideration and searched the Richardson property, where they found remains of a newborn baby girl and arrested Richardson on the spot. She was charged with aggravated murder, involuntary manslaughter, gross abuse of a courpse, tampering with evidence and child endangerment, and pled not guilty to the charges. Prosecutors allege that Richardson failed to attend follow-up doctors appointments, ultrasounds and more after finding out she was pregnant, and claim that she ignored calls from her doctors and their assistants throughout the pregnancy. The prosecution believes that Richardson killed and buried her newborn baby, while the defense argues that, since the baby was stillborn, it did not meet criteria that would legally have it be considered a child. Richardson’s trial began on September 3, 2019.
