Kanye West kicked off the season on Sept. 29, 2018 with a controversial performance of “I Like It” with Lil Pump dressed in water bottle costumes. He was a last minute replacement for Ariana Grande, who pulled out earlier in the week as she was still so devastated by the death of her ex Mac Miller on Sept. 7, 2018 due to an accidental drug overdose. The following week Travis Scott made his ‘SNL’ debut, riding high off his number one album ‘Astroworld.’ The following weeks saw breakout indie pop artist Maggie Rogers perform “Light On” and “Falling Water.” Lil Wayne, Ella Mai, Anderson Paak and Mumford and Sons all performer throughout the fall with Miley Cyrus and Mark Ronson closing out 2018 on Dec. 15 with their hit ‘Nothing Breaks Like A Heart.’ As the show shifted into 2019, the acts varied from country star Thomas Rhett, rocker Greta Van Fleet, bluesy Gary Clark Jr, rapper Meek Mill, Aussie indie rock sensations Tame Impala, pop superstar Shawm Mendes and worldwide KPOP senation BTS.
