The Sex Pistols were formed in London in 1975. The original members were vocalist John Lydon, known as “Johnny Rotten,” guitarist Steve Jones, drummer Paul Cook, and bassist Glen Matlock. Sid Vicious later joined the group to replace Glen. The Sex Pistols’ initial run only lasted two and a half years, but they were still incredibly successful. Their only studio album, ‘Never Mind the Bullocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols,’ reached number one in the U.K. The bandmembers continued their music careers well beyond the group’s dissolution. They’ve reunited a few times over the years to play together. Sadly, Sid Vicious died the year after the Sex Pistols disbanded of a heroin overdose. He was only 21 years old.
The Sex Pistols’ rise to fame will be explored in the new TV miniseries ‘Pistol,’ premiering on FX on Hulu. The show stars Toby Wallace, Maisie Williams, Talulah Riley, and more. Click through the gallery to see more photos of the Sex Pistols.
