‘The Bachelor’ first premiered in March 2002, and has become a phenomenon in the years’ since. In 2020, the show’s 24th season, starring Peter Weber, begins. Unfortunately, the show does not have the best track record when it comes to producing successful couples. Spin-offs like ‘Bachelor in Paradise’ and ‘The Bachelorette’ have had better success in terms of marriages and engagements. On the very first season of ‘The Bachelor,’ Alex Michel chose Amanda Marsh as his final choice at the last rose ceremony. He did not propose, but the two decided to pursue a relationship off the show. Unfortunately, they broke up after just a few months together. Alex’s runner-up, Trista Sutter, went on to be come the first star of ‘The Bachelorette.’
Aaron Buerge & Helene Eksterowicz
Aaron Buerge proposed to Helene Eksterowicz during the finale of season 2 of ‘The Bachelor.’ However, they were only together for a few weeks before ending their relationship after the show.
Andrew Firestone & Jen Schefft
Andrew Firestone got down on one knee in front of Jen Schefft during the final rose ceremony of ‘The Bachelor’ season 3. She accepted his proposal, but the relationship fizzled out after just a few weeks.
Bob Guiney & Estella Gardinier
Bob Guiney gave Estella Gardinier his final rose during season 4 of ‘The Bachelor.’ He did not propose, but he did gift her a promise ring and they gave their relationship a chance away from the cameras. It only lasted for a few more weeks, though, before the two broke up.
Jesse Palmer & Jessica Bowlin
Jesse Palmer decided not to propose to Jessica Bowlin after choosing her during the finale of ‘The Bachelor’ season 5. The two dated after the show, but wound up breaking up after several weeks.
Byron Velvick & Mary Delgado
Byron Velvick and Mary Delgado got engaged during season six of ‘The Bachelor.’ They had some ups and downs over the years, including Mary getting arrested for assaulting Byron in 2007. After five years together, Byron and Mary ended their relationship in 2009.
Charlie O’Connell & Sarah Brice
Charlie O’Connell and Sarah Brice left season 7 of ‘The Bachelor’ as a couple, although they decided not to get engaged on the show. They stayed together for more than two years after their season aired, but broke up in Sept. 2007. They got back together the next year, but called it quits for good in 2010.
Travis Lane Stork & Sarah Stone
Travis Lane Stork didn’t propose to Sarah Stone when he gave her his final rose on season 8 of ‘The Bachelor.’ They did date after the show, but it was a very brief relationship.
Lorenzo Borghese & Jennifer Wilson
Lorenzo Borghese and Jennifer Wilson briefly dated after season 9 of ‘The Bachelor.’ After they broke up, he started seeing his runner up, Sadie Murray, but their relationship was also short-lived.
Andrew Baldwin & Tessa Horst
Andrew Baldwin and Tessa Horst got engaged on season 10 of ‘The Bachelor,’ but they called it off one month after the finale aired. However, they decided to continue a relationship, but ended things for good just a few months later.
Brad Womack
Brad Womack infamously didn’t pick EITHER of his final two women, DeAnna Pappas and Jenni Croft, during the season 11 ‘Bachelor’ finale. He would go on to become the Bachelor again for season 15.
Matt Grant & Shayne Lamas
Matt Grant and Shayne Lamas got engaged during the season 12 finale of ‘The Bachelor,’ but broke up just two months after the finale of the show aired. Shayne went on to marry Nik Richie and have two kids with him.
Jason Mesnick & Melissa Rycroft
In one of the most memorable ‘Bachelor’ endings of all-time, Jason proposed to Melissa Rycroft during the season 13 finale, but broke up with her during the reunion to start dating his runner-up, Molly Malaney. Jason and Molly got married in 2010 and welcomed a daughter in 2013. Don’t worry, though — Melissa is happily married with three kids, too!
Jake Pavelka & Vienna Girardi
Jake Pavelka and Vienna Girardi got engaged on season 14 of ‘The Bachelor,’ but their relationship was over after just a couple of months. The two infamously aired out their drama in an explosive interview in July 2010, during which they fired hateful insults at each other.
Brad Womack & Emily Maynard
For his second time on ‘The Bachelor,’ Brad Womack proposed to Emily Maynard during the season 15 finale. However, the two split as their season of the show was airing. They did briefly get back together after the show aired, but called it quits for good in May 2011.
Ben Flajnik & Courtney Robertson
Ben Flajnik and Courtney Robertson got engaged on season 16 of ‘The Bachelor,’ but ended the relationship as the show was airing. They got back together after the finale, and he even proposed for a second time. However, the relationship was over for good in Oct. 2012.
Sean Lowe & Catherine Giudici
In the most successful love story to ever come out of ‘The Bachelor,’ Sean Lowe and Catherine Giudici got engaged during the season 17 finale, and went onto tie the knot a year later. They now have three kids together.
Juan Pablo Galavis & Nikki Ferrell
Juan Pablo Galavis and Nikki Ferrell did not get engaged at the end of season 18 of ‘The Bachelor.’ However, they continued to date after the show, and even appeared on ‘Couples Therapy.’ However, they broke up in Oct. 2014.
Chris Soules & Whitney Bischoff
Chris Soules proposed to Whitney Bischoff during season 19 of ‘The Bachelor.’ After the show, he went on to compete on ‘Dancing With The Stars,’ and she was in the audience supporting him week after week. However, just after the show ended, Chris and Whitney broke up.
Ben Higgins & Lauren Bushnell
Ben Higgins and Lauren Bushnell got engaged on ‘The Bachelor’ season 20, and were together for more than a year. During that time, they even had their own reality show on ABC Family. However, they broke up in May 2017.
Nick Viall & Vanessa Grimaldi
Nick Viall and Vanessa Grimaldi were together for just a few months after their engagement on season 21 of ‘The Bachelor.’ They broke up in Aug. 2017.
Arie Luyendyk Jr. & Becca Kufrin
Arie Luyendyk Jr. proposed to Becca Kufrin on the season 22 finale of ‘The Bachelor.’ However, he had a change of heart just weeks later and dumped Becca to be with his runner-up, Lauren Burnham. Arie proposed to Lauren during the live ‘After the Final Rose’ special, just months after he split from Becca. Arie and Lauren got married in Jan. 2019 and have a daughter together. In 2021, they added two more to the brood when Lauren gave birth to twins.
Colton Underwood & Cassie Randolph
Cassie Randolph left season 23 of ‘The Bachelor’ during her fantasy suite date, but Colton Underwood refused to let her go. He infamously dumped his other two remaining women (Tayshia Adams and Hannah Godwin) to win Cassie back. They left the show as a couple, but did not get engaged. In 2020, the two split after a year and a half together. Cassie was briefly granted a restraining order against Colton, but she dropped it in November 2020. In 2021, Colton came out as gay.
Hannah Ann Sluss & Peter Weber
Peter Weber proposed to Hannah Ann Sluss on the season 24 finale of ‘The Bachelor’ after Madison Prewett voluntarily left the show. The two split just weeks after filming ended, though. At ‘After the Final Rose,’ Peter and Madison revealed that THEY were going to give their relationship a chance, but it fizzled out days later. Peter dated another contestant from his season, Kelley Flanagan, from April to December 2020, when they announced their breakup. Peter and Kelley wound up getting back together in 2022.
Matt James & Rachael Kirkconell
Matt James and Rachael Kirkconnell didn’t get engaged on season 25 of ‘The Bachelor’ but they did keep dating after the show. However, the two split in Feb. 2021, as their season aired, due to Rachael’s past racist behavior coming to light. By April, though, they were back together and have been going strong ever since.
Clayton Echard & Susie Evans
Susie Evans left ‘The Bachelor’ before the final rose ceremony, but wound up coming back before Clayton Echard made his final decision. Clayton dumped the other two women left — Gabby Windey and Rachel Recchia — to pursue Susie. They left the show as a couple and dated for less than a year before breaking up.
