Troy Ave was born Roland Collins on November 23, 1985, and was later raised in the Crown Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. He began making music in 2009, eventually releasing his debut album ‘New York City: The Album’ in Nov. 2013, which helped him earn a spot on the coveted XXL 2014 Freshmen Class list. He followed up his first album with sophomore release, ‘Major Without A Deal’ in 2015.
Troy was later arrested on May 26, 2016 for illegal weapon possession and attempted murder after a shooting at a T.I. concert held at Irving Plaza. Four were shot, and one person died. The rapper claimed self-defense and pleaded not-guilty. See photos of the Brooklyn based rapper here.
