Amid growing tensions in Ukraine, Russia began an invasion on its neighboring country on February 24, 2022. The Russian army attacked Ukraine at the orders of Russian President Vladimir Putin, and sent the country and its capital city of Kyiv into crisis. Many Ukrainians stood up to defend their country in light of the attacks, and people all over the world spoke out against the attacks from Russia, and many different nations responded with even further sanctions on Russia than had been placed as the situation escalated.
Following the attacks, tons of people spoke out against the aggressive assault from Russia and Putin, including everyone from elected officials to celebrities to everyday people. Tons of stars and politicians used their platform to condemn the attacks, and people gathered in protest of Putin’s attacks on the independent nation.

Protest At The White House
People showed support for Ukraine by gathering in front of the White House with flags for the country. In the day following the attacks, President Joe Biden condemned Putin and Russia. ‘Putin is the aggressor. Putin chose this war, and now he and his country will bare the consequences,’ he said in part.

Ukraine Supports in Vienna
While many waved Ukrainian flags or showed the country’s colors, there were other shows of support. Demonstrators in Vienna, Austria lit candles in the shape of a heart for support for Ukrainians.
