It’s the end of the Olympics! The 2018 Winter Games, taking place in PyeongChang, South Korea, came to an amazing end on Feb. 25, 2018, with a spectacular closing ceremony. It was one last chance for these winter warriors, these artic athletes, these snowy superstars to show off the medals they’ve won, before bidding adieu in a show of friendship and unity. This was the second time that South Korea hosted the Olympic Games, the first being the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul. It was the first of three consecutive games to be held in East Asia, with Tokyo hosting the 2020 Summer Games and China hosting the 2020 Winter Games in Beijing. However, it seemed that the outbreak of the COVID-19 coronavirus would force the 2020 games to be delayed a year.

As the 2018 Winter games concluded, Ivanka Trump, the daughter of then-president Donald Trump, attended the games as a representative of the United States. She watched the closing ceremonies alongside Kim Yong Chol, the vice chairman of North Korea’s ruling Workers’ Party Central Committee. It was yet another demonstration of the odd and controversial relationship between President Trump and the North Korean leader, Kim Jong-un.
